The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released new Operational Guidelines for In-Cabin Pet Transport, aiming to improve the experience for travelers flying with pets. The guidelines are voluntary and cover various stages of travel, including booking, check-in, boarding, in-flight procedures, and arrival.

Clear Pet Travel Policies: Airlines should make their pet travel policies and documentation requirements, like health certificates and vaccination records, easily accessible.

Advance Reservations: Passengers should be advised to book their pet-in-cabin service at least 48-72 hours before flight departure.

Staff Training: Check-in personnel need proper training to ensure pets and their carriers comply with airline and IATA rules.

Procedures for Delays: Establishing protocols for managing pets during delays, cancellations, and diversions is crucial.
Additionally, IATA suggests that pet-in-cabin options should be visible in the booking process, and when not supported by travel agency systems, passengers should contact airlines directly for arrangements.
