Toyota to invest $3.6 billion in Texas facility, relocating majority of Tacoma pickup manufacturing from Mexico.

Toyota announced it will move much of its Tacoma pickup truck production from Mexico to its plant in San Antonio, Texas, as part of a $3.6 billion investment. This transition, expected to take around four years, follows the U.S. government’s decision not to renew a trade pact with Mexico and Canada, which has created uncertainty for many businesses.

In addition to this shift, Toyota aims to invest up to $10 billion in the U.S. over the next five years. The company plans to build a second assembly line in San Antonio, which will create over 2,000 jobs and boost the plant’s annual production capacity by 150,000 units. While some Tacoma trucks will still be built in Guanajuato, Mexico, this move reflects a broader trend among automakers to focus production within the U.S. amid rising tariffs and trade agreement uncertainties.

Toyota has reiterated its commitment to operations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, while emphasizing the importance of a stable trade landscape for competitiveness in North America.
