Budenheim, a German specialty chemical company, has launched its BUDAL Plus range of chelated minerals in the Americas, moving beyond its historical focus on phosphate-based ingredients. The initial offerings include magnesium bisglycinate, ferrous bisglycinate HCl, and zinc gluconate, with plans for additional products.
Chelated minerals, which are minerals bound to organic compounds like amino acids, are increasingly popular in supplement formulations due to their enhanced absorption and tolerability. They are commonly used in products aimed at improving energy, sleep, immune health, and overall wellness, with manufacturers balancing efficacy and delivery formats.
Jorge Flores, Budenheim’s senior VP of marketing and sales, noted that manufacturers now prioritize factors such as absorption, gastrointestinal tolerance, and stability when selecting mineral ingredients, suggesting that different mineral forms offer unique advantages.
The chelated minerals market is rapidly growing, projected to expand from $7.4 billion in 2026 to $11.6 billion by 2033, with North America representing 32% of the market. Budenheim’s expanded portfolio, including both chelated and non-chelated minerals, positions the company uniquely in the industry.
Flores emphasized the increasing consumer awareness of ingredient quality and usability, particularly for daily supplements. The company has confirmed the availability of its products in the U.S. market, with plans for further expansion.
