Reddit Surpasses Revenue Estimates Thanks to AI-Driven Ad Growth

On April 30, Reddit announced a positive outlook for its second-quarter revenue, projecting figures that surpass analysts’ expectations. The company attributes this boost to its AI-driven tools designed to enhance advertising effectiveness on the platform, leading to a 9 percent surge in its shares during after-hours trading.

Reddit is integrating AI-focused features that empower advertisers to reach users based on their interests and specific community discussions occurring within subreddit threads. The ad platform leverages AI to streamline the creation and management of campaigns, offering tools such as an AI copywriter tailored for Reddit-centric advertisements and an automatic image optimizer that enhances visuals for various ad placements.

According to Reddit’s Chief Operating Officer, Jen Wong, the number of active advertisers has risen by 75 percent year-over-year, marking the third consecutive quarter of substantial growth in this area, as reported to Reuters.

Despite this progress, Reddit’s share value has dropped approximately 35 percent this year.

The company’s revenue forecast for the upcoming quarter is estimated between $715 million and $725 million, surpassing the average analyst prediction of $711.6 million compiled by LSEG.

Additionally, Reddit anticipates adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) in the range of $285 million to $295 million, exceeding the estimates of $277.1 million.

In contrast, larger rival Meta reported its second-quarter revenue expectations between $58 billion and $61 billion, in line with forecasts, and confirmed planned layoffs during its earnings call.

Wong emphasized that Reddit is “still hiring and adding to our talent base,” while acknowledging that “every company is considering” the potential impact of AI on the workforce.

For the first quarter, Reddit reported a remarkable 69 percent increase in revenue, totaling $663 million, which outperformed forecasts of $610.9 million.

Wong noted that performance advertising—focused on driving measurable actions like purchases, downloads, or sign-ups—accounted for over 60 percent of the platform’s total ad revenue during the quarter.

Moreover, daily unique visitors to Reddit grew by 17 percent, reaching 126.8 million, while the global average revenue per user rose by an impressive 44 percent.

These strong results indicate that Reddit’s strategic initiatives are yielding positive outcomes as it competes with major players such as TikTok and Meta’s platforms, Instagram and Facebook, for advertising dollars in a saturated market.

Last month, Reddit partnered with Shopify to enable merchants to advertise their products directly on the platform, aiming to transform user interactions into shopping opportunities.
