Significant shifts are occurring among the tech giants of the Seattle area. Amazon and Microsoft have recently redefined their partnerships with OpenAI, as all three companies advance into the realm of artificial intelligence.
Under their updated agreement, Microsoft is no longer the exclusive cloud partner for OpenAI, creating an opening that Amazon is eager to exploit.

At a recent event in San Francisco, Amazon announced a suite of new AI services designed for businesses. Among these offerings is a robot recruiter capable of interviewing job candidates, alongside tools aimed at alleviating administrative burdens for healthcare providers. These products leverage AI “agents” — technologies that can undertake various tasks similarly to an assistant.
“This is a monumental partnership, and we are very enthusiastic about it,” stated Matt Garman, CEO of Amazon Web Services. “When we talk to companies, they always seek the best options. They want to operate on the most advanced cloud, which necessitates access to the leading-edge models available.”
Despite Amazon’s concerted push into agent-based solutions, Garman dismissed concerns regarding AI potentially displacing jobs within the company.
“We continue to hire as many software developers as we have in the past, and I foresee increased demand for that talent,” he remarked.

Amazon plans to bring on 11,000 software engineering interns and full-time employees, according to Garman. While the company did not clarify how this compares to previous hiring years, it is worth noting that thousands of employees have been laid off, and hiring has been frozen in some departments.
“I believe that the nature of every job will evolve, but that doesn’t mean jobs are disappearing,” Garman explained. “It simply means we will be able to accomplish more high-value tasks.”
