Microsoft Copilot Cowork Launches with Enhanced AI Research Tools to Identify Work Gaps

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced the launch of Copilot Cowork. This innovative tool is built upon the framework of
Anthropic’s Claude Cowork.

Furthermore, the company has rolled out Copilot Cowork in early access as part of its Frontier program, along with enhancements to the
Researcher tool, designed to assist you in planning, analyzing, and making informed decisions at work.

What Benefits Does Microsoft’s Copilot Cowork Offer?

Copilot Cowork is a powerful AI assistant designed to tackle complex, multi-step tasks within Microsoft 365. It aids you in organizing your tasks, establishing goals, and collaborating with you like a trusted colleague across various documents and processes.

You simply articulate the desired outcome, and it will formulate a plan and execute the task while updating you on its progress. You have the flexibility to intervene and adjust its course at any moment. It is capable of managing everything from one-time requests to recurring tasks like monthly budget evaluations.

Enhanced AI Features in Copilot’s Researcher Tool

Microsoft is also enhancing its Researcher feature within
Copilot, with two pivotal improvements.

The first is Critique, which introduces a collaborative setup where two AI models work in tandem on the same task. OpenAI’s GPT creates the initial response, while
Anthropic’s Claude evaluates it for both accuracy and quality before it reaches you.

As reported by Reuters, Microsoft intends to enable this interaction to become bi-directional in the future, allowing Claude’s drafts to be reviewed by GPT as well.

According to Microsoft, this new feature has enhanced the Researcher tool’s score by 13.8% on the DRACO benchmark, which is widely regarded as the industry standard for evaluating the accuracy and quality of deep research.

The second enhancement is a new model called Council, which allows users to source responses from various AI models and compare them side by side. This feature enables you to quickly identify areas of agreement and divergence, showcasing what each model uniquely contributes to your inquiry.

Microsoft states that all these updates are part of Wave 3 of Microsoft 365 Copilot, marking a significant shift toward making AI not merely a tool for experimentation but an active collaborator in your work processes.
