Mark Cuban Shares ‘Disgusting’ 25g Protein Lunch

Mark Cuban’s latest culinary revelation has certainly raised eyebrows. Known for his entrepreneurial ventures, the billionaire entrepreneur recently unveiled a rather unusual meal that even has his 16-year-old son retreating from the dinner table.

During his guest appearance on Robin Arzón’s “Project Swagger” podcast at the South by Southwest festival, the former “Shark Tank” star described a three-ingredient dish as “disgusting” yet effective for protein intake.

Having initially adopted a vegetarian diet to promote longevity, Cuban has transitioned to a pescatarian approach to enhance his iron consumption, sharing insights about his preferred lunch option.

“I know this is going to sound very unappealing, and it absolutely is,” the 67-year-old remarked to Arzón. “My latest food obsession is these egg white wraps, and since I need more iron, I add baby clams.”

“However, because they sound and taste unpleasant, I drizzle honey over them,” he confessed, eliciting audible groans from the live audience.

This Texas-based investor believes the peculiar combination not only delivers on protein but also aligns with his longevity strategy, making him feel years younger than his actual age.

“Honestly, it sounds revolting,” he acknowledged. “But that’s not even the worst part… The grossest part is that they come in a can, right? When you open it, there’s water inside, so you have to really press down the lid to drain it properly.

“I’m there squishing the can, and clam juice goes everywhere. If it spills onto the wrap, it ruins it, and I can’t put honey on a contaminated wrap,” he explained.

Despite the audience’s disgust towards his “clamwich,” there’s nutritional merit, according to one dietary expert.

“He is correct,” affirmed Robin DeCicco, a certified holistic nutritionist from New York, in conversation with Fox News. “Canned shellfish like clams, mussels, and oysters are extremely high in absorbable iron and are also rich in protein.”

The egg white wraps, containing 50 calories and 11 grams of protein, when paired with canned clams, which have 80 calories and an impressive 14 grams of protein, provide a substantial post-workout protein boost.

Nonetheless, DeCicco pointed out that some canned clams can be high in sodium, and the honey could potentially cause a spike in blood sugar compared to complex carbohydrates.

Additionally, the meal lacks vegetables, which are essential for fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals linked to disease prevention, gut health, and longevity, she advised.

Cuban adheres to a food principle he shares with his three sons: “If you like one thing and you like another, combining them will enhance the experience.”

His breakfast routine is more conventional, typically featuring cornflakes drizzled with honey and apricots for additional fuel and iron.

While this eccentric sandwich fits his longevity goals, Cuban mentions that aging has necessitated a more discerning approach to how food, exercise, and supplements impact his body.

“As you grow older, your body reacts differently to everything you consume,” Cuban explained. “Whether it’s workouts, the food you eat, or supplements.”

Previously, he shared his top three tips for feeling youthful and living longer in his anti-aging documentary “Longevity Hackers.” He emphasized the importance of walking as much as possible, which keeps him more active than in previous years.

Regular gym sessions form part of his regimen, typically lasting between 45 to 90 minutes. He incorporates high-intensity interval training along with Hyrox-style workouts focused on endurance running combined with functional strength exercises.

To fulfill his nutritional needs, he supplements with vitamin D for calcium absorption and vitamin E to bolster his immune system and reduce inflammation.

Additionally, he takes a melatonin supplement nightly to maintain a regulated sleep cycle.
