BlackSun Private Equity is in discussions with the Tulalip Tribes about building a sports-and-entertainment complex on tribal land near Marysville, Washington. This initiative is contingent on BlackSun’s potential success in securing a Seattle NBA expansion team. Reports indicate that the two parties are nearing a partnership agreement.
If approved for expansion, BlackSun envisions the team playing in a new arena located 30 miles north of Seattle. However, it remains uncertain who else will be part of the ownership group. One announced partner is Native World Sports, which aims to increase tribal involvement in professional sports and entertainment.
BlackSun’s CEO, Atonn Muhammad, mentioned that more investors with local connections are anticipated, with an ownership cap of 25 individuals as per NBA regulations. Meanwhile, One Roof Sports and Entertainment, which owns the Seattle Kraken and holds a majority stake in Climate Pledge Arena, is still leading discussions regarding the expansion.
Challenges remain, as traveling from Seattle to Everett can be difficult due to heavy traffic, making it potentially problematic for fans and sponsors to commit to regular season attendance.
