A new nonprofit in Kansas City, founded by veterinarian Dr. M. Kaitlin Dozier, aims to ease the financial burden of pet euthanasia. Peace for Every Pet offers low-cost and free in-home end-of-life care for pets, addressing the growing issue of “pet poverty” as veterinary costs have risen significantly over the past decade. Many families are forced to surrender pets due to the high costs associated with end-of-life care, with average debts reaching $940.
The organization partners with local animal welfare groups to provide services like gentle euthanasia and palliative care, as well as keepsake remembrance tokens. Currently focused on the Kansas City metropolitan area, it plans to expand to underserved rural communities in the future. Dozier emphasizes that no pet owner should face the dilemma of surrendering a suffering pet due to financial constraints.
