Member for South West Coast, Roma Britnell, has pledged to provide a PET scanner for Warrnambool Base Hospital if the Liberal Party wins the upcoming state election in November. This commitment aims to enhance access to advanced medical imaging and reduce the necessity for patients and families to travel long distances for crucial diagnostic services.
A PET scanner is a sophisticated medical imaging device utilized to detect and monitor cancers, as well as diagnose various heart, brain, and other medical conditions. The Labor Party had previously promised such a scanner during the 2022 election campaign but has yet to fulfill this promise.
Ms. Britnell emphasized the importance of timely access to scans and treatment for cancer patients, stating that they shouldn’t have to travel hundreds of kilometers for essential medical services. She expressed that the Liberals are ready to deliver on the promise that Labor has failed to keep.
