Couple Who Spent $1 Million on ‘Lifetime Cruise’ Express No Regrets After Being Left in Cambodia Due to Company Bankruptcy

An American couple, Randy and Kit Cassingham, who invested around $1 million in a “cruise for life,” are left without regrets despite being abandoned in Cambodia after the operator, Villa Vie Residences, ran out of funds. Approximately 200 passengers were abruptly ordered to disembark the Odyssey cruise ship in Sihanoukville due to skyrocketing fuel costs exacerbated by geopolitical tensions.

The couple had embarked on their journey from Belfast in October 2024, looking forward to a long-term travel experience. Despite the sudden halt, Randy expressed a desire to return if operations resumed, viewing the adventure as worthwhile. Other passengers echoed mixed feelings—some felt stranded and blamed management and external circumstances, while others cherished their experiences.

Villa Vie attributed its operational struggles to unsustainable cost increases, with monthly fuel expenses soaring. While some passengers sought immediate flights home, others chose to remain in Sihanoukville as they navigated their unexpected situation.
