A Florida mother, Irene Miller, was arrested for child neglect after allegedly leaving her four children (ages 9, 11, 12, and 14) home alone for nearly a week while she traveled to Las Vegas for work. The situation came to light when one of the children called 911 after a sibling was injured by a falling dumbbell. Upon deputies’ arrival, they discovered the children unsupervised.
Miller had flown to Las Vegas on October 18 and planned to return on October 23. She claimed to have arranged for a babysitter, but no overnight supervision was provided. Following the incident, the children’s father picked them up, and upon Miller’s return, she was arrested by authorities on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. Sheriff Chris Blackmon emphasized that the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is committed to investigating such cases and holding parents accountable for inadequate supervision.
