Man dies in Hillcroft accident; sergeant hit by vehicle as drivers violate HPD barriers.

A man was killed early Saturday in a two-vehicle crash in southwest Houston, and the driver believed to have caused the accident has been taken into custody after fleeing the scene. The incident occurred around 1:49 a.m. at the 3100 block of Hillcroft Avenue.

Witnesses reported that a vehicle was speeding northbound on Hillcroft before it ran a red light at Richmond Avenue, colliding with another vehicle. Emergency crews had to extricate an occupant from the wreckage, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The deceased is described as an adult man possibly in his late 20s.

The suspected driver, who left the scene, was apprehended by officers shortly thereafter. He was evaluated for intoxication but did not meet the legal threshold.

During the investigation, multiple vehicles reportedly breached police barriers. Some of these drivers were suspected of being intoxicated and struck patrol vehicles. Additionally, a sergeant present at the scene was struck by a vehicle, sustaining minor injuries. One passenger from a breaching vehicle was taken into custody on a felony warrant, while other drivers were evaluated for potential driving while intoxicated.

Further details regarding the identity of the deceased and any potential charges related to the crash have not yet been disclosed by police.
