An 84-year-old woman died after her vehicle fell from a parking garage in downtown Honolulu on Friday. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. at a garage located at 1088 Bishop Street. The woman’s car broke through a retaining wall and fell approximately five stories, landing upside down on the sidewalk along Hotel Street. Emergency crews arrived shortly before 3 p.m., but she was pronounced dead at the scene despite wearing a seatbelt.
The police have temporarily closed Hotel Street for their investigation, which is still ongoing, and they are looking into whether speed, drugs, or alcohol played a role in the accident. This incident marks the fourth non-traffic fatality on Oahu this year.
