Two women have tragically died, and a third is in critical condition after being struck by a car in the Allerton area of the Bronx. This incident occurred just before 2:15 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Allerton and Holland avenues. Sources indicate that three of the victims were family members.
Surveillance footage showed a white Mercedes-Benz speeding through the intersection, hitting a group of pedestrians in the crosswalk and colliding with several waiting vehicles. Four women were struck in total.
The NYPD reports that after hitting the pedestrians, the Mercedes crashed into two cars, resulting in a chain reaction involving two more vehicles. An eyewitness described hearing the engine revving and recognized the driver was speeding.
Investigators believe the 81-year-old driver of the Mercedes may have suffered a medical episode that led to the loss of control. The two women who died—aged 39 and 57—sustained severe trauma and were pronounced dead at the hospital. The third victim, an 84-year-old woman, remains in critical condition, while a 60-year-old woman is expected to recover.
In addition to the four women hit, six others, including the driver, were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive. All parties involved remained at the scene, and no arrests have been made. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
