The new Rainbow Bridge in Lake Lure has been rebuilt two years after it was destroyed by flooding from Hurricane Helene. Created by artist Amy Wald in 2021, the original bridge served as a memorial for pet owners, who hung their deceased pets’ collars on it. After the bridge was washed away, hundreds of collars were recovered by the Army Corps of Engineers. With the help of volunteers and donations, the new bridge aims to provide comfort and peace for those honoring their lost pets, bringing back a cherished space for remembrance. A piece of the original bridge will be incorporated into the nearby garden, further connecting the past to the present.
