Lawrence Humane’s Featured Pet of the Week: Meet Chip, the Biggest Fan of the KU Football Team – The Lawrence Times

Pet of the Week: Chip

Spotlight on Furry Friends
The Pet of the Week feature highlights Chip, a 2-year-old hound mix available for adoption at the Lawrence Humane Society. This initiative provides a chance for readers to learn about adoptable pets and encourage adoptions during a time when shelters are struggling with low dog adoption rates.

A Day with KU Football Players
Chip, noted to have a nervous disposition around men, recently enjoyed a special outing with 11 KU football players. According to shelter staff, he responded positively to the calm and patient demeanor of the players during the outing.

Background
Chip was initially adopted but returned to the shelter after only a few days due to fear of the male members of his adoptive family. While he may prefer a female-led household, this is not a strict requirement.

Behavior and Needs
Chip is described by volunteers as curious, chill, and well-trained. He is house- and kennel-trained and gets along well with other dogs. He requires an introduction to potential family members and any existing pets. He has been in the shelter for six months after being rescued from a rural shelter where he faced the risk of euthanasia.

Current Situation
Chip is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. His adoption fee is normally $150, but all animals at the shelter have a special fee of only $25 through October 11.

How to Adopt

Interested adopters can contact the Lawrence Humane Society’s adoptions team at [email protected] or call 785-843-6835. They can also visit the shelter at 1805 E. 19th St. between noon and 6 p.m. any day.
