Appleton International Airport in Greenville, Wisconsin, has experienced a setback as it loses $1.5 million in federal funding intended for a solar array project. Senator Tammy Baldwin had secured this funding to enhance the airport’s new concourse with renewable energy capabilities, including battery storage for power outages and reduced energy costs.
Airport Director Abe Weber expressed gratitude for Baldwin’s support while emphasizing that the cancellation won’t derail their long-term sustainable energy goals. He stated that they would continue to seek federal and state funding for energy conservation projects. The funding was part of the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program, which allocates $1.5 billion in discretionary grants annually.
Further inquiries have been made to understand the reason behind the funding cancellation.
