Announcement of Performance Space Alliance (PSA) Launch
ArtsBuild is excited to introduce the Performance Space Alliance (PSA), a new shared-space facility aimed at providing consistent, accessible, and affordable rehearsal options for local performing artists and organizations.
Facility Features
Located in the North Shore/Hixson area, PSA offers a variety of amenities designed for diverse artistic disciplines, including:
- Two large group spaces
- Three dedicated rehearsal rooms
- A small traditional stage
- A green room
- A conference room
- Shared office space
Background
PSA, formerly the Performance Innovation Center, emerged from a comprehensive performing arts feasibility study supported by ArtsBuild and the Lyndhurst Foundation. The study involved over 100 interviews with community stakeholders, extensive research, and leadership by a local arts Governance Committee.
The study highlighted a significant shortage of rehearsal space as a pressing challenge for Chattanooga’s creative sector. The pilot program is already backed by more than a dozen local arts organizations, expecting over 150 performers to use the facility in its first week.
Leadership Vision
Blake Harris, a Chattanooga native with a strong background in performing arts as a producer, director, and actor, will oversee PSA. He stated, “Our new name reflects our mission to unite Chattanooga’s creative community around affordable, shared resources. This rehearsal facility is just the beginning; we aspire to add performance venues, shop space, and storage in the future.”
Community Involvement
To maximize its impact, PSA invites community members and local businesses to contribute. They are currently accepting tax-deductible donations and essential equipment, including:
- Portable or installed ballet barres
- Marley dance flooring
- Sound equipment and speakers
- Full-length mirrors
Interested groups can inquire about rehearsal, classroom, or office space, or individuals wishing to support the project can contact Harris at blake@artsbuild.com.
