The Benjamin Logan Environmental Science Club is celebrating its 10th anniversary, engaging students in hands-on environmental projects. This year’s kickoff featured a trip to Jolly Acres, where 28 students made apple cider, painted pumpkins, and navigated a corn maze, while learning about local agriculture.
Over the past decade, the club has undertaken numerous initiatives, including removing invasive species, planting trees, and creating habitats. Students have benefitted from expert guest speakers and immersive experiences, such as overnight programs and Enviro-Camp.
Planned activities for this year include dissecting owl pellets, studying aquatic organisms, and hiking through local geological sites. The club promotes inquiry and environmental stewardship, jointly supported by Benjamin Logan Local Schools and the Logan County Land Trust.
Educators Ryan Kerns, Spencer Reames, and Bruce Smith lead the club, fostering students’ curiosity and connection to the environment. This collaborative effort highlights the vital role of community partnerships in developing future environmental leaders.
