Stand Up for Science Releases New Report on the Future of Science and Democracy
Washington, DC – October 8, 2026 – Stand Up for Science has announced the release of the first part of its report, Forging the Future of Science and Democracy. This major analysis investigates the current state of the U.S. scientific ecosystem and lays out strategies for rebuilding a more resilient future.
The report’s initial section, titled “How We Got Here: Strategies and Tactics,” serves as a comprehensive review of the factors influencing the present scientific landscape, including the loss of over 100,000 federal science employees.
Dr. Colette Delawalla, CEO and Founder of Stand Up for Science, emphasized the report’s purpose: “In the last two years, we’ve witnessed unprecedented efforts to alter policies, undermine scientific progress, and dismantle research funding. This report seeks to highlight who is responsible and how we got here. Deep reflection is necessary to learn from past mistakes and rebuild better—assumptions of good faith no longer hold.”
Researched by the organization’s policy team, the report delves into key areas affecting scientific research, examining the motivations of key players, the restructuring of the administrative state, and the impacts of recent changes to federal science agencies.
