Wichita’s Riverside Health Foundation has donated over $1 million to Kansas Health Science University (KHSU) to create an endowed scholarship fund for medical students. This $1.3 million gift aims to ensure future students at KHSU’s Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (KansasCOM) can pursue their medical education while supporting the foundation’s mission to enhance healthcare in Kansas.
KHSU highlights that this scholarship is especially timely given recent federal caps on unsubsidized loans, which limit borrowing to $50,000 per year and a total of $200,000 in lifetime loans, while the average medical school cost is around $70,000 annually.
Molly Fox, KHSU’s vice president for institutional advancement, emphasized the significance of scholarships in attracting and retaining qualified medical students, especially in underserved areas. She noted that the Riverside Health Foundation’s generosity will create lasting opportunities for future physicians committed to serving Kansas communities.
