AIAS+ 2026 Unites Top Scientists in San Francisco to Investigate AI’s Impact on Scientific Discovery

Newswise — SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 6, 2026 — The Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute will host renowned scientists, AI researchers, engineers, and innovators in San Francisco from November 5–7 for AIAS+ 2026: AI Advancing Science & Society. This three-day symposium will tackle a pivotal question: How can artificial intelligence assist scientists in transcending established knowledge and accelerating new discoveries?

The symposium embodies the Chen Institute’s mission to bridge science and AI. Established nearly a decade ago, the Institute aims to understand the brain and mind to enhance human well-being and has recently expanded its focus to integrate AI technologies in scientific research.

At AIAS+, participants from mathematics, mental health, neuroscience, and computer science will explore the transformative effects of AI on research methodologies, including hypothesis generation, pattern identification, and evidence evaluation.

The program will feature lectures, plenary talks, panels, and workshops, along with opportunities for collaboration and engagement among attendees. The event will also present the 2026 Chen Institute & Science Prize for AI Accelerated Research, honoring exceptional early-career researchers at the intersection of AI and natural sciences.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Karl Deisseroth, 2026 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine
  • Terence Tao, Fields Medalist, Professor of Mathematics at UCLA
  • Jeffrey Ullman, Turing Award recipient in computing and algorithms
  • Zhijian “James” Chen, Breakthrough Prize recipient in Life Sciences
  • Daphne Koller, founder and CEO of insitro
  • Yejin Choi, MacArthur Fellow and expert in language models

“Some of the most important scientific ideas emerge when people from different fields have the chance to work through a problem together,” said Chrissy Luo, co-founder of the Chen Institute. “AIAS+ aims to create a collaborative space where scientists, AI researchers, engineers, and students can learn and build partnerships that extend well beyond the conference.”

Additionally, the Chen Institute & Science Prize for AI Accelerated Research will honor Sergey Stavisky, Associate Professor at UC Davis, for his groundbreaking work on AI-powered brain-computer interfaces.

As the Chen Institute nears its 10th anniversary, it has allocated over $150 million to research and education initiatives, supported more than 300 students, and hosted 170 scientific conferences across four continents.

AIAS+ 2026 welcomes researchers, students, technologists, and anyone interested in the intersection of AI and science. Registration for the November event is now open.
