Holiday Tradition Transitions to Nonprofit
GREENSBORO, N.C. — The beloved holiday lights display at Spring Garden Street and West Friendly Avenue in the Sunset Hills area will have a new chapter this season. The iconic Cooper’s Christmas Balls, an initiative started by Cooper Dunning in fifth grade, is now being handed over to the nonprofit organization BackPack Beginnings.
As a college freshman, Dunning decided to transition the business to focus more on his education. BackPack Beginnings plans to utilize the Christmas balls to launch the FlexWorks program, aimed at providing flexible, paid work opportunities for local families who struggle with traditional work hours.
Dunning expressed his desire for the tradition to continue in a meaningful way, stating, “We’re passing on the torch and moving things forward.”
The Christmas balls will go on sale for $25 each starting October 15 at BackPack Beginnings. This transition not only maintains the holiday spirit but also supports community employment.
