YouTube and Google.org have announced a $2.5 million grant to Class CrunchLabs, founded by Mark Rober, to enhance and expand its free STEM curriculum. This funding comes on the heels of the launch of the Class CrunchLabs YouTube channel and will facilitate the creation of educational content, teacher resources, research, and translations.
Developed in partnership with the National Science Teaching Association, the curriculum targets students in grades three through eight and is currently available in 34 languages. New curriculum units will be added regularly, focusing on engaging subjects like electric and magnetic forces and kinetic energy. One example, the “Carnival of Collisions,” introduces students to physics through hands-on experimentation and design challenges.
The initiative aims to keep resources free for educators and families, ensuring no new technology platforms are required for implementation. Key quotes from Tara Graham, Executive Director of Class CrunchLabs, and Katie Kurtz, Global Head of Youth and Learning at YouTube, underline the vision of making science education accessible and exciting for students worldwide.
