PITTSBORO, N.C. — Unseenlabs has successfully launched two radio-frequency detection satellites, adding a second Gen 2 spacecraft while also deploying the company’s Gen 1 maritime-monitoring satellites. The satellites, BRO-23 (Gen 1) and BRO-32 (Gen 2), launched on October 1 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
This mission increases Unseenlabs’ satellite constellation to 25 and marks the first instance of launching both Gen 1 and Gen 2 spacecraft together.
Gen 2 Satellite Expands RF Detection
BRO-32, following BRO-31 as the company’s second Gen 2 satellite, is equipped to cover the L, S, C, and X frequency bands. This capability enhances its ability to detect, identify, geolocate, and characterize a wider range of RF emitters across various environments, including maritime, land, and space. Meanwhile, BRO-23 continues to support maritime monitoring by detecting RF emissions from vessels, including those that do not transmit their positions through the Automatic Identification System (AIS).
Operation of Dual Generations
Unseenlabs plans to integrate both generations into the same constellation. Each satellite operates independently, utilizing the company’s monosatellite technology. Craig Brower, President and CEO of Unseenlabs U.S., commented on the launch: “The successful launch of BRO-23 and BRO-32 is a significant milestone for our constellation, with maritime monitoring at the core of our activities and Gen 2 creating new application possibilities.”
Founded in 2015 and based in France, Unseenlabs specializes in space-based RF detection technology aimed at monitoring activities on sea, land, and in space.
