Grindr Acquires Telehealth Company in $250 Million Transaction

Grindr Inc. has announced its acquisition of telehealth platform PurposeMed Inc. for $250 million, consisting of approximately $190 million in cash and $60 million in company stock. This marks Grindr’s first significant acquisition since its launch in 2009. The deal may potentially include an additional $70 million based on performance targets set for 2027.

CEO George Arison expressed that this acquisition will enhance Grindr’s ability to provide healthcare, particularly focused on HIV prevention, leveraging its extensive user base. PurposeMed is the parent company of Freddie, a provider of HIV prevention and PrEP services.

This acquisition aligns with Grindr’s strategy to move beyond being just a dating app, evolving into a comprehensive resource for the LGBTQ+ community, including health services. Grindr’s in-house healthcare platform, Woodwork, launched in 2025, offers various medications and therapies related to sexual health.

Grindr’s expansion reflects its understanding of user needs, transitioning from a dating-focused application to a platform that supports friendships, travel, and health services, adapting to the diverse ways users engage with the app.
