Community Rallies for Justice After South Bend Shooting
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) — South Bend Police are still searching for the suspect or suspects involved in the tragic shooting on Bissell Street that occurred two weeks ago, claiming the lives of three individuals. Local business owners are rallying to encourage community support and bring justice for the victims’ families.
In an innovative effort, several business operators have started offering incentives for information. For instance, Kintae Lark, owner of Lark’s Grooming Station, announced he would provide a year’s worth of free haircuts—equating to 26 haircuts—for any valuable tips leading to the arrest of those responsible for the crime. “The violence is just too much,” Lark expressed, appealing to the community to come forward with information.
The victims, Geimisha Broadnax, Jo’Von Hopper, and Alaya Maez, lost their lives in the incident that took place in the 1300 block of Bissell Street on September 19th. Despite multiple witnesses being present during the shooting, no one has yet come forward.
Carla Bahr, owner of 24/7 Fitness LLC, is also participating by offering a six-month free gym membership for information that could lead to an arrest and conviction. “I have five sons, and I cannot imagine getting no justice for something that happened to them,” she shared passionately, highlighting the collective frustration over ongoing violence in the community.
Both business owners hope that their initiatives will encourage others to assist law enforcement in its efforts. “At the end of the day, somebody knows something,” said Lark, stressing that community involvement is crucial.
South Bend Police remind the public of Michiana Crime Stoppers, a confidential way to share tips. Tips that lead to an arrest are eligible for cash rewards of up to $2,500, encouraging community members to take action and help bring peace to the neighborhood.
As the hunt for justice continues, the South Bend community stands united, determined to support one another and seek answers for the lives lost.
