A shooting occurred outside an Eden Prairie High School football game on Friday night, leading to chaos as thousands of fans fled for safety. The incident took place shortly before 9 p.m. as spectators watched Eden Prairie compete against Minnetonka. Two men, aged 18 and 17 from St. Paul, were injured but are not students; the 18-year-old has since been released from the hospital, while the other remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting followed an altercation on the west side of Aerie Stadium, which police had intervened in shortly before the gunfire erupted in the parking lot. Law enforcement suspects involvement from Somali gangs and is currently searching for a getaway vehicle.
Eden Prairie police chief Matt Sackett acknowledged the frightening nature of the incident, particularly at an event with many students present. The homecoming dance has been canceled in the aftermath. Play-by-play announcer Wally Langfellow described the tense scene from the press booth, noting the shift from game commentary to breaking news.
As investigations continue, details such as the make and model of the getaway car remain unconfirmed, and no arrests have been made. The postponed homecoming game is set to occur on Monday, with the time yet to be determined.
