Good Samaritan Rescues Elderly Couple from Submerged Car in Hamilton
HAMILTON, MASS. (WHDH) – A heroic act unfolded Friday morning when a good Samaritan rescued two elderly individuals after their car plunged into Chebacco Lake.
At around 10:08 a.m., the Hamilton Police and Fire Departments responded to reports of a vehicle in the water. Upon arrival, they discovered two adults in their 80s from Beverly, who had already been pulled from the water by a nearby kayaker.
Emergency personnel provided treatment on-site before the couple was taken home by a family member.
Two fishermen on the lake, Dan McDonald and Tom Stein, heard the splash that alerted them to the situation. Initially believing it was just a boat, they quickly realized the gravity of the incident and rushed to help.
Upon arrival, McDonald noted that the car was nearly fully submerged. A nearby kayaker recounted how he witnessed the car accelerate before it entered the water. He assisted the couple to safety, using his kayak to help them stay afloat until help arrived.
The vehicle was later removed from the lake with assistance from New Beverly Auto and the Beverly Dive Team. The Hamilton Police continue to investigate the incident.
