Malden, MA Kidnapping: Company Discusses Training on Worker Trafficking – NBC Boston

A recent human trafficking incident in Malden, Massachusetts, has highlighted the potential role of workers like pest control technicians and healthcare providers in identifying victims. Galvin Murphy, of Yankee Pest Control, emphasized that these workers often have access to homes that others, including law enforcement, may not.

After a disturbing case where a man was accused of kidnapping and abusing a woman for over a month, Murphy trained his employees on recognizing signs of human trafficking. He noted that routine access could allow workers to notice indicators that might otherwise go unseen. Murphy shared that a shocking 1% of trafficking victims are rescued, making it imperative for the community to remain vigilant.

Resources are available for victims through organizations like the Safe House Project, which offers training and an AI-supported reporting app to help identify and report concerns. The initiative aims to empower service industry workers to act if they suspect trafficking while accessing homes, with the training focusing on warning signs such as fearfulness or inappropriate sexual knowledge in youths.

In light of this, Murphy and his team hope to raise awareness and encourage community members to speak up if they notice something amiss, reminding everyone that they might be the first line of defense for potential victims.
