Secretary of State Contenders Highlight Business Backgrounds but Diverge on Election Management Issues

Wyoming is witnessing a competitive race for the secretary of state position, following Chuck Gray’s decision to run for the U.S. House. The candidates include:

  1. Brian McCarty (Democrat): He lacks traditional political experience but highlights his management skills gained from his work at General Electric and in the train shipping industry as valuable for overseeing business registrations and elections.

  2. Tamara Trujillo (Constitution Party): A former state representative with a term in office, Trujillo also brings business experience from the oil and gas sector. She presents a balanced view on sharing voter data with the federal government.

  3. Robert Short (Republican): Currently serving his third term as a Converse County commissioner, Short has diverse industry experience and is firmly against sharing voter data with the federal government.

All candidates aim to combat fraud amidst Wyoming’s rising business filings, leveraging their business backgrounds. However, they differ significantly on issues of voter access and land use, with McCarty advocating for public land protection, while Trujillo and Short prioritize private property rights.
