City Commits Significant Funding to Olde Town Arvada Ambassador Initiative

The Colorado city of Arvada has initiated an ambassador program aimed at enhancing visitor experiences, supporting local businesses, and addressing cleanliness and safety concerns in Olde Town. Residents and visitors may start seeing these ambassadors as they carry out their duties.

Isaac Perez, one of the newly hired ambassadors, emphasized the program’s role as an extra set of eyes and ears for the business district, helping with cleanliness and providing assistance for homeless outreach. He noted that the ambassadors are non-threatening, lacking uniforms typically associated with law enforcement, which helps foster a friendlier atmosphere.

The initiative was sparked by feedback from business owners and visitors who felt there was a need for improved attention in Olde Town. Loren Nafts, a local bakery owner, highlighted challenges stemming from increased crowds, festivals, and a growing homeless population, resulting in cleanliness issues.

Deputy City Manager Allison Scheck described the program as a strategic investment in the future of Olde Town, with a three-year pilot costing approximately $440,000 annually. It includes four ambassadors and one administrator, facilitated by Block by Block, a public space management company. Scheck expressed hope that the initiative would attract more business, contributing positively to the city’s growth.

Business owners like Nafts, who serves on the board of the Olde Town Arvada Business Improvement District, welcome the program, seeing it as a positive response to their concerns. At the pilot’s conclusion, city leaders plan to assess the program’s success and its potential for continuation.
