Space Force Establishing Foundations for Future Satellite ‘Hubs’ in Anticipation of Further Launches

The U.S. Space Force is preparing to launch its next set of satellites into low-Earth orbit, aiming to enhance data transmission for military operations. The Space Development Agency (SDA) is advancing its Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA), which includes layers of data transport and missile tracking satellites from various manufacturers.

Upcoming launches include 21 satellites from Northrop Grumman, following previous launches with York Space Systems and Lockheed Martin. The next launch is scheduled for October 5 at 1:15 a.m. PT from Vandenberg Space Force Base, contributing to a planned total of 21 more satellites to augment existing capabilities.

The initiative seeks to ensure global coverage and enhance the resilience of military satellite systems amidst potential threats. Collaborations with companies like SpaceX are also underway to establish a Space Data Network, aiming for a multi-orbit communication framework.

SDA director Gurpartap “GP” Sandhoo emphasized that the new networks will create “enclaves” for effective data sharing and encouraged future market entrants to connect seamlessly to ensure robust information flow.
