Autocrypt has launched a shared public key infrastructure (PKI) for Plug & Charge in South Korea, facilitating a unified authentication process for automakers and charge point operators. This system, validated on electric vehicles from brands like Hyundai, Kia, BMW, and Tesla, allows registered cars to automatically identify themselves to compatible chargers, potentially streamlining payment and settlement services in the future.
Duksoo Kim, CEO of Autocrypt, emphasized the necessity of a trusted framework for secure connections among vehicles and charging infrastructure in the emerging Physical AI era. This shared framework helps avoid the duplicated costs of individual authentication systems, especially critical when multiple brands use the same charging stations. Autocrypt is working on expanding the network with additional automakers and operators, although specific details about partners or the current extent of the network remain undisclosed.
