Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting has secured her second Asian Games gold medal, triumphing in the women’s 60kg (132lb) final held in Nishio, Japan, where she defeated Yang Chengyu of China with a decisive 5-0 score. This victory comes three years after her first gold at the Asian Games in the 57kg (126lb) class in Hangzhou, China.
At 30 years old, Lin faced significant challenges, including a major gender eligibility controversy surrounding her participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics, during which she was cleared to compete. Surrounded by supportive fans in the gym, Lin dominated the match with her reach and control, withstanding a late push from her opponent to secure the win.
Despite contemplating retirement post-Olympics, Lin chose to continue boxing, motivated partly by a desire to counter questions regarding her eligibility. Both she and Imane Khelif of Algeria had faced disqualification at the 2023 world championships due to unspecified gender tests but were later allowed to compete in Paris by the International Olympic Committee, which recognized the unfairness of their disqualification. Both athletes ultimately celebrated gold at the Olympics.
