Bellevue Business Loses Dozens of Beehives to Flooding
BELLEVUE, Neb. — The owners of Beauty and Bees Honey in Bellevue are assessing the damage after flooding destroyed the land where they managed their beehives.
Heavy rain led to significant flooding along South 25th Street, resulting in crates of beehives floating in the water. Unfortunately, around 90% of the bees did not survive, with owner Anna Marie Mistanoglu reporting a loss of about 35 hives.
“This is a major loss for us. It’s been a terrible day,” Mistanoglu stated. The deceased bees would have produced an estimated 2000 pounds of honey, which hadn’t been harvested yet.
Despite the tragedy, the store remains open. Support has poured in from the community, with many customers visiting to show their encouragement. Mistanoglu expressed her determination to continue beekeeping after more than a decade in the business.
