China is influencing global oil markets as Brent crude prices rise above $100 per barrel. A recent report indicated that Chinese refiners are suspending fuel exports in October to conserve domestic oil supplies, leading to a nearly 4% spike in Brent prices and a 2% rise in US oil prices.
The suspension of exports adds pressure to an already tight supply of refined products, such as diesel and jet fuel, as PetroChina canceled several shipments planned for October. With the Chinese refining hub entering a week-long holiday, only exports to Macau and Hong Kong will continue.
Analysts warn that if China prioritizes its domestic energy needs, it could exacerbate global supply issues, maintaining high oil prices. The situation is critical, especially for sectors like shipping and freight, where high diesel prices are already impacting costs for consumers.
