New Bedford’s Cove Walk and Harbor Walk Close as Businesses Prepare for Storm
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — New Bedford’s Cove Walk and Harbor Walk are currently barricaded as the area braces for an impending weekend storm. Local businesses, particularly Cisco Brewers, are gearing up for potential flooding and high winds.
Robert Bruno from Cisco Brewers expressed concerns about the storm’s impact, particularly regarding flooding and wind. “We’re more worried about the flooding and the wind,” he stated.
To mitigate damage, all furniture has been locked down, and signage has been removed ahead of the expected winds. Bruno described the anticipated conditions: “This would all be covered in water,” emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
The storm has disrupted plans for a big weekend event featuring blues and barbecue at Cisco Brewers, prompting them to take protective measures. Bar equipment vulnerable to wind and salt has been secured, including frozen mudslide machines. Additionally, two large TVs were removed from the outdoor area due to safety concerns.
Despite the challenges, Cisco Brewers is attempting to keep business moving. They had three large parties scheduled for the weekend but have decided to move all events indoors. However, the storm’s impact on employees is significant, with many bartenders losing shifts and the associated tips they depend on.
“This is probably the biggest hurt of the whole weekend,” Bruno lamented, reflecting on the financial strain the storm may cause for his staff.
