A pet python named Xanthe has been found alive over two weeks after escaping her owner’s home in Bretton, Peterborough. Jacob Edwards reported that Xanthe, a 4.5ft ball python, vanished on September 11 after slipping through a vent and leaving through an open door.
Edwards had lost hope of finding her alive but was quickly alerted when she was discovered wrapped around the roots of a rose bush in a neighbor’s garden. He described the struggle to retrieve her as “absolute torture.”
Despite her survival outdoors, a vet has diagnosed Xanthe with septicemia, a serious infection, and she is now under treatment with painkillers and antibiotics. Edwards expressed optimism for her recovery, “She beat all the odds outside, so I’m really hoping she can beat the odds with this as well.”
Ball pythons typically require controlled environments, and while Xanthe’s enclosure was maintained at a suitable temperature, the outdoor conditions made her survival uncertain.
