NuScale Power Sees 4% Increase Amidst Dilution Worries; Uranium Energy Up 4%, Oklo Climbs 2%

NuScale Power Stock Moves Up Despite Dilution Fears

NuScale Power (NYSE: SMR) saw a 4% increase, rising to $8.07, despite ongoing investor worries about share dilution following a $750 million share-sale program. Other companies in the nuclear sector, Oklo (NYSE: OKLO) and Uranium Energy (NYSE MKT: UEC), also experienced gains of 2% and 4%, respectively, alongside broader market trends.

Financial Snapshot

The Global X Uranium ETF (NYSE ARCA: URA) rose 0.68% to $40.31, while the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE ARCA: SPY) increased by 0.51% to $768.09. NuScale, still in its pre-commercial phase, boasts a sizable cash reserve of approximately $1.9 billion. However, concerns about increased share counts and potential further dilution through the newly authorized share program persist.

Ongoing Concerns About Dilution

NuScale’s diluted average share count surged by 173% from the previous year, rising from about 133 million to 365 million. Earlier this year, the company sold nearly 90 million Class A shares through an at-the-market program, netting around $985 million. The new $750 million authorization has raised alarms over potential further share issuances.

Info on Competitors

Oklo focuses on developing small modular reactors intended for data centers, relying heavily on equity raises for their capital needs. Uranium Energy concentrates on uranium exploration and production throughout North America, benefiting from the current uptick in nuclear energy interest, which aligns with increasing electricity demand.

Broad Interest in Nuclear Energy

The advance of the Global X Uranium ETF indicates growing interest in nuclear energy, particularly as the demand for electricity surges, particularly from industrial sectors. NuScale’s 77-megawatt module has already received U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission approval, with potential partnerships in the works.

Outlook for Investors

While NuScale Power’s cash reserves provide room for pursuing contracts, fresh equity sales could dilute shares further without a corresponding increase in value. Success with partnerships could serve as positive catalysts, but investors are advised to manage risk carefully due to the inherent volatility in the pre-commercial nuclear and uranium markets.

Key Considerations for Investors

Investors are encouraged to closely analyze dilution risks, project timelines, and the pace of commercialization. Keeping position sizes moderate is advisable in light of the unpredictable nature of these investments.
