Valve has announced upcoming changes to how discounts and events are displayed on Steam, aiming to better showcase a variety of games. The new system will personalize game recommendations for each player, enhancing the visibility of titles they may want to purchase. This change does not involve dynamic pricing, but rather a shift from a static, curated approach to a more dynamic display.
According to Valve, this update could expose customers to ten times more games daily in the Discounts & Events section, leading to increased store page visits, wishlists, and cart additions. While there’s no specific launch date, Valve plans to fully transition away from curated calendars in the Discounts & Events Section next year, relying more on player data to tailor suggestions.
Developers will also receive new tools to manage these changes. Overall, this is seen as a positive step, as it aims to make the discovery of relevant games more efficient for users who often overlook the discounts and events due to irrelevant offerings.
