Humane Society of Southwest Michigan Launches Mary C. Grish Community Pet Center

The Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan has opened a new 6,000-square-foot facility named the Mary C. Grish Community Pet Center, funded largely by a generous bequest from Mary Grish. After she was unable to keep her cat due to assisted living, Grish adopted her pet to the humane society, ensuring ongoing updates about the cat’s well-being. Upon her passing, she left an estate donation valued between $800,000 and $900,000 to support the new center.

This facility is designed to host large events, including spay and neuter clinics, and provides greater space for animals to exercise, particularly during inclement weather. The project took three years to complete due to permitting challenges, but it’s now a vital resource for the community. Additionally, the Cook Power Plant contributed $75,000 for spay and neuter equipment, supporting the humane society’s participation in the Bissell Fix the Future program.
