What do you want for Christmas?
If you answered “to get spooked by a new Robert Eggers film,” you’re in luck! Eggers’ latest project, Werwulf, hits theaters this December, and the trailer promises an unnerving experience.
Co-written by Eggers and The Northman collaborator Sjón, Werwulf transports viewers to a 13th-century English village facing mysterious beastly attacks.
The beast may be closer than expected, as it’s revealed to be a local farmer, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, cursed with lycanthropy. A haunting voice urges him to “feed upon the flesh of mankind” in exchange for his soul, hinting that the attacks are a twisted form of self-preservation.
As the farmer’s fate teeters, a skilled hunter, played by Willem Dafoe, arrives in the village with intentions to eliminate the wolf. The farmer’s wife, portrayed by Lily-Rose Depp, believes in his goodness—will it be enough to save him?
Check out the full trailer for a chilling glimpse into Eggers’ period detail mastery, but don’t expect to see Taylor-Johnson in his wolf form just yet. Some secrets may remain until release.
Release Date
Werwulf hits theaters on December 25.
