BANGOR — Bangor Fire and Police responded to a peculiar incident at Dunkin on Main Street where a car ran over a boulder. Officials discovered a Jeep Grand Cherokee positioned atop the rock near the mulch area of the parking lot, with damage to the underside and leaking gas.
The Department of Environmental Protection was called to drain the vehicle’s gas to safely haul it off, and the Jeep was lifted off the rock in approximately 10 minutes.
Acting Lieutenant for the Bangor Fire Department, Jimmy Shutts, stated that he had never encountered something like this before but mentioned hearing about other similar incidents at that location. “This is the first one I’m aware of. I’ve heard from others that there have been a few incidents here, but I haven’t seen or heard of them myself,” Shutts said.
Authorities suspect that the driver made a sharp turn, leading to the unusual accident.
