Pinkerton Animal Hospital Welcomes New Veterinarian, Dr. Eden Johannes
Earlier this month, Pinkerton Animal Hospital expanded its veterinary team with the addition of Dr. Eden Johannes. A North Dakota native, Dr. Johannes is set to bring her expertise to the clinic as she prepares to graduate with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 2025.
Dr. Johannes shared her excitement about her new role at Pinkerton, stating, “I’m a full-fledged associate veterinarian here and we see patients every day,” handling everything from puppy vaccinations to life-saving surgeries. Her journey began at North Dakota State University (NDSU) where she pursued pre-veterinary medicine, followed by her acceptance into Kansas State University for her DVM degree.
Reflecting on her educational journey, Dr. Johannes mentioned the demanding nature of vet school: “I went from taking 20 credits in undergrad to 20 credits in vet school, studying from morning until bedtime.” Despite the overwhelming workload, the experience prepared her for a fulfilling career in veterinary medicine.
Growing up on a ranch near Underwood, Dr. Johannes was immersed in a world of animals, which ignited her passion for veterinary science. She fondly remembers moments spent helping her family care for various animals, including a memorable childhood experience with a calf. “That’s where it started,” she said, noting her early fascination with animal care.
Encouragement from her parents fueled her curiosity throughout her education. Dr. Johannes expressed a long-held dream of becoming a veterinarian, a passion that persisted despite exploring other career options during high school. Owning three horses, several cats, and a dog, her love for animal surgery—especially with horses—stays at the forefront of her practice.
Before joining Pinkerton, Dr. Johannes faced challenges in a previous practice that led to burnout. Acknowledging the veterinary shortage in rural America, she emphasized the importance of work-life balance, which was a key factor in her decision to join Pinkerton. “They were very accommodating,” she noted about her new work environment, which offers a supportive atmosphere and equitable on-call duties.
In her first month at Pinkerton, Dr. Johannes described her colleagues as an energetic and welcoming team. “I really appreciate that even though the other three doctors here are all middle-aged men, I’m still part of the doctor team,” she observed.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception from the Minot community, Dr. Johannes is eager to continue providing quality care for pets. “Thank you to everyone I’ve met so far. We appreciate the understanding and positivity, especially during busy days,” she stated.
As she settles into her new role, Dr. Johannes looks forward to building strong relationships with her patients and their owners while enjoying her passion for veterinary medicine.
