2001 Sheridan Road Relaunches as a New Hub for Social Science Departments

Northwestern University’s anthropology department, previously located in a historic house at 1810 Hinman Ave., is set to move to the newly renovated 2001 Sheridan Road in the 2026-27 academic year. This shift aims to improve collaboration and accessibility, as the old building faced numerous maintenance issues and was somewhat isolated from the campus’s central activities. Anthropology professors, including Thomas McDade and Jessica Winegar, expressed excitement about the new space, which will also house other social science departments, facilitating interdisciplinary interactions. Faculty hope this change will enhance collaboration among various fields and improve department morale.
