Des Moines University Launches Doctor of Medical Science Program
WEST DES MOINES, IOWA (September 24, 2026) — Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences has opened applications for its groundbreaking Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) program, the first of its kind in Iowa. This fully online, cohort-based degree is tailored for physician assistants (PAs) seeking to elevate their careers in clinical leadership, education, or research.
Angela Grundmeyer, DMSc PA-C and program director, expressed, “The DMSc program empowers PAs to enhance their professional skills while advancing their leadership and scholarship capabilities.” This program responds to the evolving demands of healthcare systems by equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve patient outcomes and health systems.
Eligible applicants must be either enrolled in or graduates of ARC-PA-accredited Master’s-level PA programs. The inaugural class began in Fall 2026, with a delivery format designed for flexibility for professionals. Students can choose from concentrations in Health Sciences Education, Public Health, or Health Care Administration, each aimed at addressing key areas of healthcare.
