Voices of the 904 – Season Launch: Jacksonville Collective Bridging Cultures via Language and Community

Jacksonville, Fla. – Camila Ruiz, who initially joined a language exchange group while living in Nashville, sought to replicate that sense of community after moving to Jacksonville. Unable to find a similar group, she founded the Jacksonville Spanish-English Conversation Group.

On the premiere episode of Voices of the 904, Camila discusses the group’s growth from just five members in 2019 to a thriving community. She emphasizes the importance of consistency, creativity, and collaboration in fostering connections through language.

For Camila, these gatherings are more than just lessons in Spanish or English; they are opportunities to build confidence and create a welcoming environment. “Jacksonville is growing and becoming a more diverse city,” she notes, underlining the significance of such spaces for promoting inclusivity.

At the core of her mission is the belief that language can serve as a bridge, enhancing connections among people from different backgrounds.
