The UMD men’s hockey team is starting their season with high hopes, aiming for a fourth national championship. Coach Scott Sandelin is leading a strong roster of 19 returning players, including Max Plante, the reigning Hobey Baker Award winner. After narrowly missing the Frozen Four last year, Sandelin believes that the team’s past experiences could motivate them.
Max Plante chose to return for his junior season, driven by a sense of unfinished business and the desire to play alongside his brother Zam. They are also excited to skate with their younger brother Victor, a new addition to the team. UMD kicks off their season next weekend against Long Island University at AMSOIL Arena.
